Holly Yorgen Speaks Green

Where did you grow up? Indianapolis.

What is your professional background? I’m an account manager with Engledow’s Interior Division and have been working here for 22 years. All of my plant care knowledge comes from “Engledow University,” seminars, workshops, and Grande Greenhouse. I maintain plants at The Fashion Mall, Duke Properties, The Precedent Office Park, Indianapolis Marriott East, Ocean Prime, and a bunch of other fun places!

What inspires you in life? I’m easily inspired by the simplest of things. For example, one morning I placed a Portulaca plant in my car, but it had yet to bloom so I didn’t know the color. Later that day I got a text from Barbara Everson that said, “there are little red flowers in your car.” It’s little things like that where I find inspiration.

What hobbies and interests do you enjoy in your pastime? I collect wall pockets, pottery, handmade items, vases, old step stools, and recently it’s glass paperweights. I love the “seek and find” part of collecting and the places it takes you. There are always projects going on at my house. I really enjoy hanging around with my husband of 27 years, Thom, and my best buddy, Stryker (our dog).

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why? If I could have a superpower it would be the ability to have a conversation with my dog Stryker… or to understand how to use my iPhone.

What three words best describe you? Enthusiastic, dependable, and passionate.

Last but not least, what is your favorite plant? Right now I really like the new varieties of tillandsia for both outside and inside.
